COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four former Benedict College baseball players have signed professional contracts, recently.
Jocquese Brunson and Brandon Young have signed with the Skagit Valley Lumberjacks of the Mount Rainier Professional Baseball League. Brunson was named to the Palmetto All-State team in 2013. He was named to the ABCA and NCBWA All-South Region teams after hitting .367 with six home runs. He ranked second in the NCAA with 49 stolen bases and also led the nation with eight sacrifice flies. Selwyn Young was a first-team All-SIAC selection in 2011. He hit .345 with two home runs and 40 RBI in 52 games as a junior and hit .349 with 41 RBI in 43 games as a senior.
Elishia McDaniel and Sammy Carter both signed with the Trinidad Triggers of Trinidad, Colo., of the Pecos League. McDaniel was named to the PalmettoStateBaseball.com All-State second team last season. McDaniel hit .354 with 40 stolen bases, scored 30 runs and drove in 24. He was an honorable mention selection in 2013. He was an honorable mention All-American after an impressive freshman season that saw him hit .438 with 16 RBIs and 32 runs. Carter hit .339 for the Tigers in 2010.
