PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida, the nation's top-ranked men's tennis team, defeated Benedict College 5-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament on Saturday morning.
West Florida won all three doubles matches for a 3-0 lead. Benedict's No. 1 team of
Nathaniel Pinkney and
Quentin Eloise put up a tough fight against the nation's number one rated men's doubles team of Alex Peyrot and Pedro Dumont before falling 8-4.
In singles action, Sebastian Sanchez of West Florida cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over
Malek Selmen at No. 6 singles. The match was clinched when Serdar Bojadjiev defeated
Taj Ballantyne 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
West Florida improves to 27-1 and will play ninth-ranked Lynn University for the region championship at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Benedict finishes its season at 17-9.
