COLUMBIA, S.C. – Craig Bowen has been named head men's and women's golf coach for Benedict College, announced
Willie Washington, Director of Athletics.
“We are excited to be able to bring someone with Craig's vast experience and knowledge of the game of golf to Benedict College,” Washington said. “He has a tremendous amount of passion and energy for the game of golf, and will be a tremendous asset to the student-athletes and the entire campus community.”
Bowen, a native of Homewood, Illinois, is a 30-year veteran of the golf industry, working as a promotions manager at Titleist and Footjoy. He also served as Associate Producer for the documentary “Uneven Fairways”, the story of African-American golfers, produced by Moxie Pictures and featuring Samuel L. Jackson and Tiger Woods. Bowen also worked as chief researcher for the book “Uneven Lies”, a book on African-American golf history written by Pete McDaniel.
“Coaching at the collegiate level has long been a goal of mine, and I am excited about joining the Benedict College family,” Bowen said. “I am ready to get to work to bring a championship-caliber golf program to Benedict.”
Bowen has also served as Executive Director of the National Minority College Golf Scholarship Fund, as well as an instructor at the PGA Tour Academy located in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
He is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., where he was a member of the two-time conference championship golf team.
