Tuskegee Shoots Down Lady Tigers

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – In a battle between two of the top teams in the SIAC women's basketball race, Tuskegee University topped the Benedict College Lady Tigers 67-51 on Saturday.

Benedict shot under 30 percent (18-of-61, 29.5 percent), and made just one out of 16 3-point attempts, while turning the ball over 26 times.

Benedict dropped to 11-4 overall and 10-3 in the SIAC. Tuskegee improved to 12-4 overall and 9-3 in the SIAC.

Santera Grooms led Benedict with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Alexus Jones added 10 points.

Alondra Rivers led Tuskegee with 19 points.

Benedict led once, at 3-2, but Tuskegee scored the next 11 points to take a 13-3 lead. The closes Benedict got after that was 25-20 on a layup by Jones. Tuskegee took a 31-21 lead at the half.

A jumper by Jones with 4:07 left in the game cut the lead to 57-50, but Tuskegee scored 10 of the final 11 points for the victory.

Benedict travels to face Stillman on Monday night.
