COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers dominated Paine College in a 3-0 victory on Tuesday at C.A. Johnson High School.
The Lady Tigers rolled to a 25-16, 25-13, 25-9 win, and completed the match with 16 total aces. Benedict improves to 11-6 overall and 9-4 in the SIAC. Paine falls to 5-15 overall and 3-8 in the SIAC.
In the first set Benedict and Paine started out head-to-head with the score tied 9-9, before the Lady Tigers turned it up a notch with an 11-0 run.
In the second set Benedict and Paine were tied 3-3 before the Lady Tigers went on an 8-0 run to take command. In the final set,
Liyah Davis served for 12 straight points, which included five aces, which gave the Lady Tigers an insurmountable lead.
“Our serving was great for sure. They had something behind the serves,” Coach Gwen Rouse said. “
Terae Sweeting was our player of the night. I stayed on her and tried some new things at practice with her and it worked in this game.” Sweeting showed some power with seven kills.
LaTayvia Mack had 10 kills, while Courtney Bobo-McKenzie added nine.
Ashley Jackson had 27 assists and five aces.
The Lady Tigers travel to face Fayetteville State on Tuesday in a non-conference match.
