Lady Tigers Clamp Down On Johnson C. Smith, 55-37

COLUMBIA – Benedict College women's basketball coach James Rice picked up his first career victory as the Lady Tigers held Johnson C. Smith to just 12 points in the second half in a 55-37 victory on Thursday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena in Benedict's home opener.

Ashley Thompson led the Lady Tigers with 14 points, while Brittany Jackson had 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Monique Weathers added 11 points.

Benedict had a 35-25 lead at the half, but held the Golden Bulls to just 26.7 percent shooting (4-of-15) in the second half.

The Lady Tigers forced 27 turnovers and scored 22 points off those turnovers.

Benedict, now 1-2 on the season, takes on Allen University on Nov. 24.

Brittany Dorsett led Johnson C. Smith with 14 points. The game was the season-opener for the Golden Bulls. Karnina Bunch added 11 points.
