Lady Tigers Cruise Over Lane, 58-32

Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers won their third straight game, holding Lane College scoreless for 10 minutes in the first half and cruising to a 58-32 victory on Thursday night.

Brittany Jackson had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Benedict, now 3-1 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 6-10 overall.

Kaiya Elliott added a season-high 10 points and eight rebounds in the win.

Benedict forced 25 Lane turnovers and recorded 17 steals. The Lady Tigers held Lane to just 26 percent shooting for the game, including 12 percent in the first half.

Lane fell to 1-3 in the SIAC and 3-6 overall. Marissa Stewart led the Lady Dragons with eight points.

The Lady Tigers opened the game by scoring the first seven points. Lane cut the lead to 9-6 on a Stewart jumper with 13:06 to play, but then Benedict went on a 15-0 run, with Kaiya Elliott's layup giving the Lady Tigers a 24-6 lead with 3:06 to play. Lane didn't hit a field goal for the final 13:06 and Benedict took a 24-8 lead at the half.

Benedict kept the pressure in the second half, building the lead to as much as 31 points, 56-25, on a layup by Jackson with 3:16 left to play.

Benedict is on the road Saturday afternoon to face Kentucky State.
