COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College volleyball team sent their four seniors out in style with a 3-0 victory over Johnson C. Smith on Sunday afternoon.
Playing in their final home game, seniors
Tatyana Robinson and
Lorena Leao had 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while
Terae Sweeting added four kills and two blocks. Leao had a double-double with 12 digs to go along with her 11 kills. Senior libero
Kelsey Green had 13 digs and four assists as the Tigers won 25-13, 25-19, 25-12.
Benedict, now 15-10 overall and 11-6 in the SIAC, has a week to prepare for the SIAC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., which begins Monday, Nov. 10.
Benedict pulled away in the first game with seven straight points for a 17-7 lead.
LaPromise Boone had four service aces in that span.
Arneshia Parrish scored the final point of the game on a kill.
Benedict scored five straight points in the second game to take a 14-7 lead. Johnson C. Smith cut the lead to 20-16, but Benedict scored four of the next five points for a 24-17 lead. Johnson C. Smith scored the next two points, but
Kiarra Pettway closed out the game with a kill.
In the third game, Benedict broke away from an 8-8 tie with four straight points. After the Golden Bulls scored a point on a kill, the Lady Tigers scored six more points in a row for an 18-9 lead.
Je'Nae Saunders closed out the match with an ace, one of 10 on the afternoon for the Lady Tigers.
