Lady Tigers Fall To North Greenville, 3-1

COLUMBIA, S.C. – North Greenville University defeated Benedict College for the second time this season, taking a 3-1 victory on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.

North Greenville won 25-18, 18-25, 25-18, 25-14 to take the victory.

North Greenville took a 3-0 victory over Benedict in their first meeting this season, Sept. 19 in the Crusader Classic tournament.

Benedict was playing shorthanded on Thursday, as senior outside hitter Terae Sweeting and junior defensive specialist Je'Nae Saunders were both out of town attending an academic function.

The Crusaders pulled away in the first game from a 10-8 score with seven straight points. Benedict came back with six straight points to make it 21-17. North Greenville closed out the first game with a pair of kills.

Benedict and North Greenville were tied at 13 in the second game when the Lady Tigers scored three straight points to take the lead. After North Greenville scored to cut the lead to 19-16, Benedict scored four straight points, getting kills from Tatyana Robinson and Lorena Leao. Jocolby Brown and Leao closed out the second game with kills.

North Greenville pulled away from a close score in the third game, outscoring Benedict 5-1 to take a 14-9 lead. Benedict was able to get within four points, 21-17, but North Greenville scored three straight points, then won the game on a kill by Taylor Dupes.

North Greenville went on a 7-0 run in the fourth set, as Megan Google served three straight aces, for a 14-7 lead and went on to take the 25-14 win.

Lorena had 15 kills to lead Benedict. Brown added seven. Kelsey Green had 21 digs, while Leao had 20. LaPromise Boone had 29 assists.

Benedict, now 8-6 overall, continues its six-game home stand against Clark Atlanta on Monday at 6 p.m.
