BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers hit a season-low -.115 percent and lost 3-0 to Kentucky State in the opening round of the 2015 SIAC volleyball championship on Wednesday in the Birmingham Crossplex.
Kentucky State, the top seed from the west division, beat Benedict, the fourth seed from the east division, 25-15, 25-10, 25-13.
Benedict falls into the loser's bracket and will face Miles College, the fourth seed from the west, in an elimination game at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The winner of that match would play again at 3 p.m. against the loser from a noon winner's bracket game between Clark Atlanta and Claflin. The winner of that 3 p.m. match would turn around and play again at 5 p.m. to advance to a semifinal match.
Benedict committed 22 errors and recorded just 13 kills against Kentucky State.
Kiarra Pettway led Benedict with four kills.
P'yuncka Kearse-Peeples had 14 digs.
Tahje Ochs led Kentucky State with 10 kills. The Lady Thorobreds will face Albany State, the second seed from the east, in a winner's bracket game at noon.
