ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Claflin had strong finishes in the second and third set to take a 3-0 victory over Benedict in an SIAC volleyball match on Wednesday.
Claflin won the match 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 to improve to 10-4 overall and 10-3 in the SIAC. Benedict fell to 8-8 overall and 6-5 in the SIAC.
After Claflin took the first set, the Lady Tigers rallied with four straight points to take a 22-21 lead in the second set. But Claflin closed out the set by scoring four of the final five points. Benedict had a 17-15 lead after a kill by
V'Aira Harris in the third set, but Claflin scored the next four points to take a 19-17 lead. Benedict tied the set at 19, but Claflin scored the next four points. Two points by Benedict made it 23-21. After trading points, Claflin closed out the match on a kill by Bria Bronston. Bronston led Claflin with 16 kills.
Harris and
Aaliyah Lawson led Benedict with eight kills each.
Brianne McMillian had 19 assists, while
Majda Cisic had a team-high 11 digs.
Benedict travels to Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday for a pair of non-conference matches against Edward Waters and Talladega College.
