COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers outscored Kentucky State 52-22 in the second half and claimed an 81-59 victory over the Lady Thorobreds on Saturday afternoon in an SIAC women's basketball contest.
After getting off to a cold start, shooting just 22.6 percent in the first half and trailing 37-31 at the break, the Lady Tigers came alive in the second half to improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the SIAC. Kentucky State falls to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC.
MiKeisha Moore led Benedict with 20 points, connecting on six 3-pointers.
Simone Roberts added 15 points, 12 of those in the second half.
Destiny Betts had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, with 11 of her points coming in the second half.
Daphene Brown led Kentucky State with 16 points.
Kentucky State had a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and the Lady Thorobreds led by as much as 14 points, 26-12, in the second quarter before taking a 37-31 lead at the half. A 3-pointer by Moore gave Benedict a 47-45 lead with 3:09 left in the third quarter and the Lady Tigers built a 55-49 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Benedict wraps up its three-game conference home stand on Monday, taking on Lane College at 5:30 p.m.
