FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Fayetteville State University opened its volleyball season with a 3-1 victory over Benedict College Friday night.
The Lady Broncos won 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 27-25. Benedict falls to 2-1 on the season.
After dropping the first set, Benedict jumped out to a 21-14 lead in the second set and tied the match with a 25-20 win. The Lady Tigers had an early 13-5 lead in the third set, but Fayetteville State went on an 11-0 run to take a 19-16 lead and held on for the set win. Benedict again had a lead in the fourth set, taking a 20-16 advantage. The Lady Broncos scored seven of the next eight points for a 23-21 lead. A kill by Aliyah Lawson gave Benedict a 25-24 lead, but the Lady Broncos scored the final three points for the match win.
V'Aira Harris led Benedict with 10 kills and six assists.
Majda Cisic had a team-high 16 digs.
