ATLANTA – Benedict fell behind 2-0 and rallied to win the next two games, but Clark Atlanta pulled out the fifth set to take a 3-2 SAIC volleyball victory on Wednesday night.
Torcealon Kelley led Benedict with 16 kills, while
Kiarra Pettway added nine kills.
Majda Cisic had a team-high 14 digs, while
Brianne McMillian had 30 assists.
Clark Atlanta won the first two sets 25-14 and 25-11. Benedict used a seven-point run in the third set to take a lead and then closed out the set with the final two points with McMillian recording her only kill of the match for the final point. Clark Atlanta had a 21-14 lead in the fourth set before the Lady Tigers scored seven of the next eight points to cut the lead to 22-21. A kill by Kelley gave Benedict its first lead, 25-24. A service ace by Kelley capped the rally and gave Benedict a 28-26 victory.
In the fifth set, Clark Atlanta pulled away from an early 3-3 tie to jump out to a 9-4 lead. A Clark Atlanta error gave Benedict its fifth point, but the Lady Panthers scored the final six points for a 15-5 victory.
Benedict falls to 8-9 overall and 5-7 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta improves to 7-10 overall and 7-3 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers return to action next Wednesday, returning home to take on Johnson C. Smith at 7 p.m.
