BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Benedict College volleyball team beat Claflin 3-2 to advance to the semifinals of the SIAC Volleyball Tournament on Thursday at the Birmingham Crossplex before being knocked out with a 3-0 loss to LeMoyne-Owen College.
Benedict ends the season with a 16-15 record.
The Lady Tigers took on rival Claflin in a morning elimination match. Benedict lost the first set 25-19, but then took the next two sets 25-15 and 25-23 to take a 2-1 lead. Claflin won the fourth set 25-18 with the Lady Tigers pulling out a 15-13 victory in the deciding fifth set.
Kiarra Pettway led the Lady Tigers with 15 kills against Claflin, while
Arneshia Parrish added 13 kills.
Mariah Cobbin had a double-double with 48 assists and 15 digs, both season highs.
Brianne McMillian led the defense with a season-high 20 digs.
The Lady Tigers advanced to take on LeMoyne-Owen Thursday night in another elimination match. LeMoyne-Owen won in straight sets, 25-22, 25-15, 25-15. LeMoyne-Owen followed with a victory over Albany-State to advance to Friday's championship match against Kentucky State.
Adrionna Washington led Benedict with eight kills. Cobbin had 24 assists and McMillian had 12 digs.
