COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College volleyball team closed out the 2017 home schedule by splitting a pair of matches on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Clark Atlanta took a 3-0 victory over the Lady Tigers in the opener. In the nightcap, Benedict defeated Edward Waters College 3-0 in a non-conference matchup.
Benedict moves to 14-12 overall and 9-8 in the SIAC.
Kiarra Pettway led Benedict with eight kills against Edward Waters, while
Adrionna Washington and
Taylor Stephens had seven each.
Brianne McMillian had 33 assists, while
Majda Cisic had 22 digs.
Benedict pulled away from a 12-12 tie to take a 23-18 lead. The second set was tied early at 4-4, but Benedict surged ahead for a 14-8 lead. The Lady Tigers closed out the set with the final three points, getting set point on a service ace by McMillian. The third set was close. The Lady Tigers had a 16-11 lead, but Edward Waters rallied to take a 23-21 lead. Benedict scored the final four points, with Washington getting back-to-back kills for the final two points.
Against Clark Atlanta,
Torcealon Kelley led the Lady Tigers with six kills and nine digs.
Mariah Cobbin had a team-high 15 assists.
The Lady Tigers recognized their four seniors prior to the Edward Waters match, honoring Pettway, Kelley,
Arneshia Parrish and
P'yuncka Kearse-Peeples.
Benedict closes out the regular season with a non-conference road match at Fayetteville State on Wednesday.
