BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Benedict College volleyball team was knocked out of the 2018 SIAC Volleyball Championship with a pair of losses during Monday's opening round action.
The Lady Tigers fell to top-seed Spring Hill College 3-0 in the morning's opening round. After falling to the loser's bracket, Benedict dropped a tough 3-2 setback to Clark Atlanta University in the afternoon.
Benedict wraps up the season with a 12-18 record, having lost the final nine games of the season after a series of late-season injuries.
Spring Hill, 29-3 overall, rolled to a 25-10, 25-12, 25-10 victory over Benedict.
Taylor Stephens and
Kiera Brothers led Benedict with seven kills each.
Ashleigh Reeves had 13 digs and
Ka'Tia Wright had 12 assists.
Against Clark Atlanta, Benedict dropped a hard-fought 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-6 decision. Stephens had a season-high 11 kills. Reeves had a double-double with 21 digs and 18 assists.
Ka'Tia Wright also had a double-double with 15 assists and 15 digs.
In the fourth set, Benedict was able to tie the match at 2-2 by jumping out to a 16-10 lead. Clark Atlanta cut the lead to 19-17, but the Lady Tigers scored the next four points. A kill by Stephens closed out the set.
In the deciding fifth set, Clark Atlanta scored the first seven points and held on for the clinching 15-6 victory.
