COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers closed out 2018 with an 80-64 victory over Kentucky State University on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Ay'Anna Bey continued her hot play by scoring 32 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season.
Ayanna Armstead added 10 points.
Benedict improves to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in the SIAC. Kentucky State falls to 8-6 overall and 2-4 in the SIAC.
After a slow start, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Thorobreds 20-8 in the second quarter, spurred by a 15-3 run, to take a 32-25 lead at the half. Benedict's lead grew to as much as 19, 50-31, on a layup by
Essence Stinnette with 1:32 left in the third quarter.
Kentucky State was able to cut the lead to six points, 56-50, with 5:48 remaining in the contest, before Jabree Jones scored back-to-back layups to push the lead back to double digits.
Benedict is back in action on Wednesday with a home game against Central State University at 5:30 p.m.
