ALBANY, Ga. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers won their seventh straight game and remained unbeaten in the SIAC with a 64-61 victory over Albany State on Saturday afternoon.
Ay'Anna Bey led the Lady Tigers with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
Ayanna Armstead added 13 points for Benedict, now 15-4 overall and 10-0 in the SIAC. Albany State falls to 5-15 overall and 4-6 in the SIAC.
Benedict had a 53-39 lead early in the fourth quarter and then had to hold off a late rally by the Lady Golden Rams. Albany State cut the lead to 63-61 with 27 seconds left in the game. Benedict missed three free throws in the final seconds before Bey closed out the game with a free throw with two seconds left.
The Lady Tigers struggled shooting, going 24-of-61 (39.3 percent) from the floor, 8-of-33 (24.2 percent) on 3-pointers and a season-low 34.8 percent (8-of-23) from the free-throw line. Benedict held Albany State to 30.9 percent shooting (21-of-68) and 26.9 percent on 3-pointers (7-of-26).
Benedict continues its road trip with a game on Monday night at Fort Valley State.
