COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College volleyball team captured their 13th victory of the season on Thursday night with a 3-2 victory over Fort Valley State University.

The Lady Tigers won the match 25-20, 24-26, 22-25, 25-16, 15-6, improving their overall record to 13-10 and 6-6 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State falls to 3-12 overall and 2-11 in the SIAC.

Adrionna Washington led the Lady Tigers with 21 kills and nine digs. Kiera Brothers added 13 kills, while Ashleigh Reeves contributed with a season-high 61 assists and 19 digs.

Midway through the first set with Benedict up 14-12, the Lady Tigers went on a 7-2 run to extend their lead, helping to win the set. The second set went back and forth throughout until the Lady Wildcats prevailed to win the set.

The Lady Tigers found themselves down 23-18 in the third set. Benedict would score three unanswered points to pull within two after a block by Taylor Stephens and Brikyia Benjamin. Fort Valley State held on to win the set.

The Lady Tigers looked like a different team in the final two sets. Benedict would lead by as much as 11 in the fourth set to send the match to a fifth and final set. Washington took over in the fifth set, contributing with six kills to help Benedict win the set and clinch the match.

Benedict will host Albany State University on Friday at 6 p.m. at C.A. Johnson High School.
