COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 23rd-ranked Benedict College Lady Tigers held Augusta University to just 17.5 percent shooting and rolled to a 78-34 victory on Tuesday night.
Benedict improves to 5-1 on the season, while Augusta falls to 2-3.
Ay'Anna Bey led the Lady Tigers with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly added 17 points, while
Mahogany Randall contributed with 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Benedict jumped out to an early 18-4 lead off a free throw from
Camryn Bostick. Augusta would go on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to seven, but this would be as close as they would get for the remainder of the game.
The Lady Tigers would follow it up with an 11-0 run to extend their lead to 18. A layup by Bostick as time expired in the first half would give Benedict a 41-17 lead heading into halftime. Johnson-Kelly led Benedict with 11 of her 17 points coming in the first half.
The Lady Tigers would outscore the Jaguars 20-5 in the third quarter to increase their lead to 39 points. A solid fourth quarter for Benedict would seal the deal and clinch the victory.
Benedict's relentless defense held the Jaguars to 10-of-57 from the field (17.5 percent) and 1-of-12 (8.3 percent) from 3-point range. Benedict held a dominating 61-33 advantage in rebounding, and had an 18-0 advantage in second-chance points.
Benedict will host Miles College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
