COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College volleyball team defeated Clark Atlanta University 3-0 on Friday night, stretching its winning streak to eight games.
Benedict won the match 27-25, 25-17, 27-25 to improve to 19-10 overall and 10-6Â in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta falls to 4-15, 3-13 in the conference.
V'Aira Harris led the Lady Tigers with 10 kills, three aces, and three blocks. Kayla Stephens added seven kills, while Ashleigh Reeves contributed with 28 assists and 14 digs.
In the first set, scoring went back and forth until the Panthers made back-to-back unforced errors, allowing Benedict to win the set. The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 10-4 lead in the second set and would hold on to win 25-17.
Benedict fell behind 19-14 in the third set and seemed to be struggling to gain any momentum. After a timeout by coach Gwendolyn Rouse, the Lady Tigers scored six unanswered points to take a 20-19 lead. Both teams would battle, but Benedict would prevail to win the set and clinch the match. The Lady Tigers closed out the match with kills from Stephens and Adrionna Washington.
Benedict will host Paine College on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for their final regular season match of the season. Benedict will honor three seniors - Harris, Washington and Taylor Stephens.
