COLUMBIA, S.C. – More than 400 high school football players were on hand at Benedict College's Charlie W. Johnson Football Stadium on Friday to participate in the South Carolina Elite Prospect Mega Camp.
The football players came from all over South Carolina, while others traveled from North Carolina, Georgia, and from as far away as New York to participate in the camp.
The day-long camp was split into two sessions, with about 200 players participating in each session, with a kicking camp in between the morning and afternoon sessions.
The players ranged from rising ninth graders to recently graduated seniors. The players were able to perform in front of dozens of college football coaches. The coaches providing the instructions came from the University of South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, South Carolina State, Wofford, Gardner-Webb, Georgia State, North Greenville, Wingate, Campbell, and others.
Ridge View High School football coach Perry Parks was the primary organizer of the event, with Benedict College assistant coach
Kenyan Conner serving as the on-site coordinator.
"I would say it was a big success," Conner said. "The kids got to do college level drills instructed by college coaches. We maxed out the numbers, had no injuries, and the kids had a good time. They got some good work in."
