COLUMBIA, S.C. – A 21-0 run between the first and second quarters by the Benedict College Lady Tigers helped to defeat Allen University, 80-61, on Monday night.
Benedict improves to 14-2 on the season, while Allen falls to 12-4 overall.
Hannah Stull led the way for the Lady Tigers with a season-high 12 points, a season-high six rebounds, and a season-high five assists.
Camryn Bostick added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Ay'Anna Bey contributed with nine points, five blocks, and a game high 14 rebounds.
Benedict fell behind early, 13-7, eight minutes into the first quarter. An 8-0 run by the Lady Tigers, capped off by a three from
Octavia Hawkins, allowed them to retake the lead after one quarter, 15-13.
The momentum would carry over to the second quarter as Benedict would outscore Allen 23-7. The Lady Tigers would begin the quarter on a 13-0 run to extend their lead to 28-13. Benedict took a 38-20 lead heading into halftime.
The Lady Tigers extended their lead to a game-high 24 points, 61-37, with 21 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Bey scored seven of her nine points in the third, as well as adding six rebounds and two blocks. Benedict would take a 61-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Tigers continued their strong play in the fourth quarter, securing an 80-61 win.
Benedict put forth a stellar defensive performance, forcing 22 turnovers and scoring 26 points off those turnovers. The Lady Tigers also had a dominating 27-8 advantage in second-chance points.
Benedict will travel to Fayetteville State University on Saturday at 2 p.m for another non-conference contest.
