FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers used a dominating performance in the third quarter to pull away from Miles College and take a 58-35 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The win improves Benedict to 2-0 on the season. Miles falls to 2-8.
Benedict had a 24-16 lead at the half, and the Lady Golden Bears cut the lead to 29-24 with 5:36 left in the third quarter. The Lady Tigers outscored Miles 13-2 over the rest of the quarter to break open the game and take a 42-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Tigers continued their strong play in the fourth quarter, holding Miles to just one field goal in the quarter.
Benedict held Miles to 19 percent (12-of-63) shooting for the game, including 5-of-28 (17.8 percent) in the second half. Benedict recorded 13 steals and out-rebounded the Lady Golden Bears 46-37.
Keondra Archie led the Lady Tigers with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Ay'Anna Bey added 12 points.
Benedict returns to action on Tuesday at 6 p.m., taking on Allen University at Allen, with a rematch on Wednesday night.
