COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers won their third straight match with a 3-0 victory Paine College on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Lady Tigers improve to 12-7 overall with the 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 victory. Paine falls to 3-11.
Cana Smith led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills, while
Daija Walton added nine kills and two blocks.
Ashleigh Reeves had 33 assists and a team-high nine digs.
Kaiah Green recorded three blocks.
Benedict used a 5-0 run midway through the first set to take a 14-7 lead. Paine answered with the next five points to cut the lead to 14-12. The Lady Tigers scored seven of the next eight points to take a 21-13 lead. Walton closed out the set with a kill.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the second set and cruised to a 25-17 victory.
In the third set, Benedict used a 7-0 run to jump out to a 14-6 lead, capped by an ace by
June Hollins. Paine rallied back to tie the set at 23-23, but the Lady Tigers closed out the match with kills by Walton and Smith.
Benedict travels to face Albany State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
