COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sixth-ranked North Georgia hit 12 3-pointers and held off the Benedict College Lady Tigers, 69-64, on Tuesday night in the home opener for Benedict.
Camryn Bostick led Benedict with 17 points, while
Wykira Johnson-Kelly added 16 points.
Keondra Archie had 12 points and
Ay'Anna Bey added 11 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Benedict trailed 45-34 with 7:13 left in the third quarter before the Lady Tigers scored nine straight points to cut the lead to 45-43. A pair of free throws by Johnson-Kelly with 2:06 left in the quarter gave Benedict its only lead of the game, 47-46. The lead was short-lived, as North Georgia scored a layup to regain the lead and led 51-49 heading into the fourth quarter.
North Georgia opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and built the lead to as much as nine points, 66-57, with 4:13 left in the game.
Benedict, now 1-2 on the season, travels to take on Edward Waters University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
