COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College football players
Steven Campbell,
Mitchell Romig and
Ja'ron Kilpatrick have all been named to the 2021 Academic All-District® Football Team, selected by CoSIDA. The trio were selected in District 2, which includes teams from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA), Gulf South Conference (GSC) and South Atlantic Conference (SAC).
Benedict was the only school from the SIAC or CIAA with players named to the team, and the only team outside of the South Atlantic Conference with multiple players named to the team.
Cambell, a junior from Fountain Inn, S.C., was one of Benedict's top receivers this season, catching 16 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns. In the classroom, he has a 3.68 GPA as a business administration major.
Kilpatrick was Benedict's fourth-leading tackler. He finished with 39 total tackles, with eight tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and three pass breakups. The junior linebacker from Auburndale, Fla., has a 3.7 GPA as a sport management major.
Romig, a junior from Jacksonville, Fla., was one of Benedict's top offensive lineman, starting as the team's center. In the classroom, he has a 3.67 GPA as a business administration major.
The Academic All-District® Football Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-December.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
