COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak to Tuskegee, beating the 22
nd-ranked Golden Tigers 74-54 in their SIAC opener on Saturday afternoon.
Keondra Archie led the Lady Tigers with 17 points, while
Ay'Anna Bey added 13 points. Benedict improves to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC. Tuskegee lost for the first time this season, falling to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
Archie hit a 3-pointer to break a 12-12 tie, and the Lady Tigers never trailed again. Tuskegee scored to trim the lead to 15-14 at the end of the first quarter. Benedict scored nine unanswered points early in the second quarter to take a 26-16 lead.
Madison Golden, playing in her first game of the season, hit a pair of free throws to close out the first half to give Benedict a 41-26 lead at the break. Golden scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds and had a team-best four assists.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly and
Ayanna Armstead scored 11 points each, and
Jasmine Gholson added 10 points.
Camryn Bostick grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.
Tuskegee cut the lead to 64-52 with 3:51 left in the game, then outscored Tuskegee 10-2 to close out the game.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Monday, hosting Spring Hill College at 5:30 p.m. in another SIAC contest.
