FORT VALLEY, Ga. –
Ayanna Armstead scored 14 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to help lead the 24
th-ranked Benedict College Lady Tigers to a 79-47 victory over Fort Valley State University on Saturday afternoon.
Ay'Anna Bey scored 18 points, while
Camryn Bostick added a season-high 15 points.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly chipped in with 11 points.
The Lady Tigers scored the first six points of the game and had a 19-13 lead after the first quarter. Fort Valley State took a 20-19 lead with 7:47 left in the second quarter, but Benedict outscored the Lady Wildcats 19-5 the rest of the way for a 32-25 lead at the half.
The Lady Tigers scored the first 12 points of the third quarter to take a 44-25 lead.
Jasmine Gholson and Armstead opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers. Benedict had a 65-47 lead with 4:53 remaining in the game before scoring the final 14 points of the game.
Benedict shot a season-low 36.1 percent, but held Fort Valley State to 21.1 percent shooting, including 3-of-25 (12 percent) in the second half. The Lady Tigers out-rebounded the Lady Wildcats 56-41.
Benedict (6-0) and Fort Valley State (2-2) will have a rematch on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the home opener for the Lady Tigers. Per SIAC guidelines, no fans will be permitted in the HRC Gymnasium, but fans can watch the live stream or follow live stats.
