COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's volleyball team opened its home schedule with a 3-0 victory over Allen University on Thursday night.
Benedict won the first two sets easily, 25-15, 25-13, then staged a late rally in the third set to win 25-18 and seal the victory.
Kiera Brothers led the Lady Tigers with nine kills, while
Kennede Thomas and
Cana Smith each had eight kills. Benedict, now 2-1 on the season, hit .316 as a team.
Ashleigh Reeves had 23 assists and a team-high 15 digs.
After Benedict cruised in the first two sets, Allen, now 0-1, jumped out to a 17-11 lead in the third set. Benedict scored four points in a row to cut the lead to 17-15 with kills by
Kaiah Green, Thomas and Smith. Allen scored the next point for an 18-15 lead, but Thomas recorded a kill to give Benedict the point and the serve. Reeves served for nine straight points as Benedict scored the final 10 points of the set. Green closed out the match with a kill.
Benedict travels to Morris on Monday before the SIAC Crossover Sept. 24-26 in Cartersville, Ga.
