COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Ay'Anna Bey scored 25 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to help lead the Benedict College Lady Tigers to a 73-65 victory over Edward Waters University on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The 25 points were her second-highest of the season, and the 18 rebounds was also her second-best of the season with her fourth double-double of the season. The fifth-year senior also has now surpassed 2,000 career points.
Keondra Archie added 18 points and
Camryn Bostick chipped in 10 points for the Lady Tigers, who improve to 11-5 on the season. Edward Waters, now 11-6, was led by 22 points from La'Quanza Glover.
The Lady Tigers scored the first seven points of the game and led by as much as 13 points, 16-3, in the first quarter. Edward Waters rallied to tie the score at 26 with 2:38 left in the second quarter before Benedict closed out the first half with the final six points for a 32-26 lead at the break.
Benedict had as much as a 12-point lead in the third quarter, 49-37 ,after a three-point play by Bey. Bey scored a layup to close out the third quarter for a 52-47 Benedict lead. Back-to-back 3-pointers by
Ayanna Armstead and Archie in the fourth quarter gave Benedict a 63-51 lead with 5:29 left in the game.
The Lady Tigers take a break before returning to action on Jan. 17 with a road game at Albany State. The next home game will be Jan. 22 against Savannah State.
