Benedict Places 5 On Football Academic All-District Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The post-season awards continue to roll in for the Benedict College football program, this time for academic success.
 
The Tigers placed five players on the 2022 Division II Academic All-District® Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators.
 
Ja'ron Kilpatrick and Mitchell Romig were named to the Academic All-District® team for the second year in a row. Joining them this year are Loobert Denelus, Dylan Geese and Ja'Varrius Wilson.
 
Kilpatrick, a junior defensive back, has a 3.84 GPA as a sport management major. He was named a national semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, presented by the National Football Foundation, and received the SIAC Elite 14 Award, presented to the student-athlete participating in the conference championship with the highest GPA.
 
Romig is a junior offensive lineman with a 3.61 GPA as a business administration major with a concentration in marketing. Romig is the starting center for an offensive line that paves the way for an offense that averages 395.5 yards per game.
 
Denelus is a junior defensive lineman with a 3.92 GPA as a psychology major. Denelus was named the SIAC Defensive Player of the Year and leads Division II in sacks per game.
 
Geese is a sophomore long snapper with a 3.56 GPA as a sport management major.
 
Wilson is a sophomore linebacker with a 3.74 GPA as a business administration major. He had 16 tackles with one tackle for loss to go along with two pass breakups.
 
Benedict College was the only member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with any representatives on the Academic All-District® team, and one of three Division II HBCU schools with representatives. Chowan from the CIAA had three representatives, while Winston-Salem State had two representatives.
 
A total of 361 Division II student-athletes were named to the Academic All-District® Team.
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December. 

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
