COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers scored a season-high 99 points and surpassed 90 points for the fourth game in a row as they crushed rival Allen University 99-54 on Thursday night at Allen's John Hurst Adams Gym.
Ayanna Armstead scored a season-high 24 points, hitting six 3-pointers, as Benedict drilled 11 3-pointers, their fourth straight game with 10 more shots from beyond the arc.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly scored 20 points, hitting 18-of-19 from the free-throw line, and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and had a career-high seven steals.
Ay'Anna Bey added 15 points and
Keondra Archie chipped in 12 points.
Benedict improves to 18-6 overall. Allen falls to 5-14.
The Lady Tigers broke away from a 14-14 tie in the first quarter as Archie hit a jumper, and Armstead had a steal and a layup and followed that with a 3-pointer. Benedict led 21-17 at the end of the quarter.
Benedict pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 27-8 and taking a 48-25 lead at the half. The Lady Tigers never had less than a 15-point lead the rest of the way, building the lead to 28 points, 70-42, at the end of the third. The 45-point final margin of victory is their largest of the season.
