CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan won a pair of doubles matches to earn the doubles point, and that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 victory over the Benedict College women's tennis team on Saturday.
Benedict lost the No. 1 doubles and won the No. 3 doubles as
Karina Izakova and
Shakendra Alston won their match. Southern Wesleyan edged Benedict's
Olivia Simms and
Gabriela Zelaya 7-6 at No. 2 doubles.
The two teams split the singles matches, with Esperance Follykoue winning a hard-fought match, 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Izakova won at No. 3 singles and Zelaya won at No. 5 singles.
Benedict plays at Newberry College on Monday.
