COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's volleyball team reached a historic milestone on Friday night, recording the first victory in the program's history with a 3-0 win over Morehouse College in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict swept the match, 25-13, 25-19, 25-18 to improve to 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in the SIAC. Morehouse falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
Donovan Wilmott led the attack with 12 kills and hit at a .563 clip.
De'Andrae Taylor added eight kills and hit .583.
Terran Walkin had 16 assists, while
Ahijaa Sweeney added 11 assists.
Clint Forbes led the defense with 11 digs.
In the first set, Morehouse scored the first four points, but the Tigers reeled off 10 points in a row. Benedict built the lead to 19-8 before Morehouse closed the gap to 19-12. Benedict scored the next four points, then closed out the set with a pair of kills by Wilmott.
Morehouse jumped out to an early lead in the second set, starting out with a 7-3 advantage. Benedict scored seven of the next eight points to take over the lead, 10-8 and never looked back. The Tigers started off hot in the third set, scoring the first eight points and stayed in control the rest of the way.
Bryson Harris sealed the match with a kill.
Benedict travels to take on Erskine on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
