COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's tennis team edged Shaw University 4-3 in a non-conference men's tennis match on Tuesday at the Columbia Tennis Center.
The Tigers won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The key match was at No. 2, where
Divgurjot Singh and
Killian Surmont pulled out a 7-5 victory.
In singles action, the two teams split the six matches. Benedict's
Mark Chigaazira dropped a close first set, then rallied in the next two sets to take a 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1. Singh cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, while
Jason Chigaazira took a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.
The Tigers improve to 5-3 on the season. Shaw falls to 0-5.
Benedict travels to Mobile, Ala., next week to take part in the second SIAC roundup.
