COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict Tigers had leads in all three sets, but could not hang on to them, and Edward Waters took a 3-0 victory in men's volleyball action on Saturday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.,
Edward Waters won the match 25-22, 25-21, 25-13 to improve to 10-18 overall and 7-1 in the SIAC. Benedict falls to 6-13 overall and 4-6 in the SIAC.
Benedict had a 12-7 lead in the first set before Edward Waters scored four points in a row. Benedict got the next point for a 13-11 lead, but Edward Waters scored the next four points to take the lead. Benedict tied the score at 22 on a kill by
Zion Beckford, but Edward Waters closed out the set with two kills and a Benedict attack error.
In the second set, Benedict led for most of the set and had an 18-14 lead after a kill by
Benjamin Attles. Edward Waters rallied with six points in a row to take the lead. Benedict cut the lead to 23-21, but Edward Waters closed out the set with a pair of kills.
Benedict had a 6-3 lead early in the third set before Edward Waters reeled off six straight points, and followed that with a seven-point run for a 17-8 lead and cruised to the win to clinch the match.
Ras Jesse Delancy led the Tigers with 12 kills and added three blocks.
Donovan Wilmott added eight kills.
Terran Walkin had 23 assists and five blocks.
Clint Forbes had seven digs.
The Tigers will next compete in the inaugural SIAC Men's Volleyball Championship April 19-21 at the Rock Hill Sports and Events Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
