COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers handed Albany State just their third conference loss of the season, taking a 3-0 victory in women's volleyball action on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict hit .312, recorded eight blocks, and notched six service aces to dominate the Golden Rams to take a 25-16, 25-13, 25-15 victory. Benedict improves to 15-7 overall and 9-7 in the SIAC. Albany State falls to 15-13 overall and 14-3 in the SIAC. Benedict avenged a 3-0 loss to Albany State on Oct. 8.
Benedict had just 10 attack errors on 93 total attacks, which matched their second-fewest of the season.
Desire' Young had a team-high nine kills and hit .667, committing just one error on 12 total attacks, while also recording two blocks.
Kaiah Green had eight kills and also had a pair of blocks.
T'yannah Lake matched her season-high with six kills and had one block.
Jadyn Murry had 17 assists, six digs and served a pair of aces.
Albany State hit .093, committing 23 errors on 108 total attacks.
The win snapped a three-match losing streak to Albany State, and the Golden Rams had won nine of the previous 11 matches.
Benedict had a 14-12 lead in the first set before scoring the next five points. The Lady Tigers then scored five of the next seven points for a 24-14 lead. After a kill by Albany State,
Kaiah Green closed out the set with a kill.
Benedict jumped to an early 8-2 lead in the second set, and closed out the set by scoring eight of the final nine points.
The Lady Tigers used a five-point run in the third set to take a 13-7 lead.
Kennede Thomas scored a kill for the final point of the match.
Benedict is back in action with a match against Fort Valley State on Sunday at 4 p.m. as the Lady Tigers will celebrate Senior Day, honoring three seniors.
