COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's volleyball team took a 3-2 victory over Carolina University on Thursday night in their final home match of the season.
The Tigers beat Carolina University for the second time this season by a 3-2 score. Benedict took the match 20-25, 25-15, 25-18, 14-25, 15-9 to improve to 10-7 on the season.
Ras Jesse Delancy finished with 18 kills, including five in the deciding fifth set, while also notching 11 digs for a double-double. Delancy scored the final three points of the match.
Donovan Wilmott, one of two seniors who was honored on Senior Night, finished with 10 kills.
Kendersley Marcellin had 20 assists, while
Terran Walkin added 19.
Clint Forbes had 14 digs.
The Tigers dropped the first set as the Bruins used a six-point run to take a 9-7 lead and held on to the lead. Benedict cut the lead to 21-19 after a pair of kills by Delancy and a Carolina attack error, but the Bruins scored the next three points and won the set on a kill.
Benedict used a five-point run in the second set to take a 16-12 lead, then had another six-point run for a 24-14 lead. Benedict won the set on a kill by Wilmott.
The Tigers used a seven-point run in the third set to pull away from a tie game and take a 23-16 lead. After the Bruins scored the next two points, Benedict closed out the set on back-to-back kills by
Jomari Jacobs.
Carolina jumped to an early 8-2 lead in the fourth set and cruised to a 25-14 win forcing a deciding fifth set.
Benedict scored five straight points to break away from a 6-6 tie.
Zion Beckford had a kill and an ace, while Delancy added a kill. The Bruins scored the next three points before the Tigers closed out the set with the final four points, including the final three on kills by Delancy.
The Tigers travel to Fort Valley State on Saturday to close out the regular season before competing in the SIAC Tournament April 20-21 at Fort Valley State.
