COLUMBIA, S.C. – Edward Waters University took advantage of 26 Benedict College turnovers en route to a 65-52 victory in a SIAC women's basketball contest on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Edward Waters scored 25 points off Benedict turnovers and used an 11-0 run in the third quarter to pull away for the victory.
Benedict falls to 3-16 overall and 1-11 in the SIAC. Edward Waters improves to 6-14 overall and 4-8 in the SIAC.
Edward Waters had a 25-19 lead at the half, and led 38-32 with 3:33 left in the third quarter after a 3-pointer by
Alaysia Nash. Edward Waters scored the next 11 points and had a 50-36 lead at the end of the quarter. Edward Waters had as much as a 20-point lead, 58-38, early in the fourth quarter. Benedict was able to cut the lead to 10 points, 58-48, on a pair of free throws by
Taylor Christmas with 4:57 remaining, but could get no closer.
Nash led Benedict with 15 points, while
Raven Johnson added 10 points.
Benedict wraps up its six-game home stand with a contest against Savannah State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
