COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's volleyball team closed out the 2024 season with a 3-0 loss to Savannah State University on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Savannah State won the match 25-22, 25-23, 25-14. Benedict ends the season at 17-10 overall and 11-8 in the SIAC. SSU improves to 14-8 overall and 13-6 in the SIAC and will advance to the SIAC Championship next week in Albany, Ga.
T'yannah Lake, one of three seniors the Lady Tigers honored for playing in the final match of the season, recorded seven kills.
Kaiah Green, a graduate student who was honored as a senior last year, also had seven kills. Benedict's other two seniors were liberos
Brandi Seaborn and
Jordan Williams. Seaborn had eight digs, while Williams had five digs.
Willow Alls recorded 18 assists for Benedict.
Savannah State had a 21-16 lead in the first set, but Benedict cut the lead to 22-20 after kills by
Nyla Troncoso, Alls and Green. Savannah State closed out the set by scoring on a pair of Benedict errors and a kill.
The second set was close as well, with Benedict scoring four straight points to tie the score at 17, and then got kills from
Krislenn Lucas and Troncoso to tie the score at 21, and a kill by
Angelic Carter tied the score at 22. Back-to-back errors by Benedict gave SSU a 24-22 lead and they closed out the set with a kill.
Savannah State jumped out to a 10-4 lead, maintained a comfortable advantage, then scored the final five points of the set to clinch the win.
