COLUMBIA, S.C. – Spring Hill College outscored Benedict 24-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away and defeat the Benedict College Lady Tigers 68-62 in a SIAC women's basketball contest on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Spring Hill had a 43-41 lead with 3:37 left in the third quarter before the Lady Tigers had a surge, outscoring the Lady Badgers 10-1 to end the third quarter to take a 51-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Spring Hill started out with a 14-1 run to open the quarter to take a 58-52 lead with 5:37 left in the game. The Lady Tigers tied the game at 58 on a 3-pointer by
Ghylissa Knowles, but Spring Hill scored the next six points for a 64-58 lead with 45 seconds left and held on for the win.
Spring Hill improves to 4-7 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC. Benedict falls to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the SIAC.
Knowles led Benedict with 17 points.
Ciara Hardy added 12 points.
Benedict returns to action on Sunday with a home game against Augusta University at 1 p.m.
