COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College took the first set, but then dropped the next three as St. Andrews University took a 3-1 victory in a non-conference men's volleyball match on Tuesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
St. Andrews won the match 24-26, 25-10, 25-9, 25-16 to improve to 12-6 overall. Benedict falls to 0-10 on the season.
The Tigers rallied from a 17-13 deficit in the first set, tying the match at 21 after a St. Andrews error. The Knights scored the next two points, but then Benedict scored the next three points, all on St. Andrews errors, for a 24-23 lead, their first lead in the set. A Benedict service error tied the score at 24, but the Tigers took the lead on a kill by
Jomari Jacobs, then won the set on a St. Andrews error.
The Knights came out strong in the next two sets, as Benedict scored just five kills in the second set and two kills in the third set. In the fourth set, the Knights jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and had a 23-11 lead before the Tigers scored five of the final seven points.
Jacobs led the Tigers with seven kills.
De'Andrae Taylor had four kills and notched four and a half blocks.
Jaiden Romes-Crawley had a season-high 13 assists.
Clint Forbes recorded 10 digs.
Benedict travels to take on Central State in a doubleheader on Friday and then faces Kentucky State on Saturday as part of a six-game road span. The next home match will be April 9 against Truett McConnell.
