COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Desire' Young had 15 kills and hit .500, and
Kaiah Green added 11 kills as the Benedict College Lady Tigers defeated Allen University 3-1 in a SIAC women's volleyball match on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict won the match 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, 25-15 to improve to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC. Allen falls to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers used a 7-0 run in the first set to take a 14-10 lead, but the Lady Yellow Jackets later tied the score at 18. The set stayed close the rest of the way. Benedict edged out a 23-21 lead, but Allen scored the next two points to tie the score again. The Lady Tigers got a kill from
Kylie Jackson and won the set on an Allen error.
The second set was a close battle as well. The score was tied at 15 before Allen scored the next six points for a 21-15 lead. The Lady Tigers rallied back to tie the score at 24 as Young had a kill,
Willow Alls served up an ace and Green tied it with another kill. Allen closed out the set with the final two points on a Benedict error and a kill.
The Lady Tigers used a 7-1 run late in the third set to pull away from a close game and take an 18-14 lead. A kill by
Krislenn Lucas made it 21-15. The two teams swapped points with Benedict taking a 23-18 lead. The Lady Tigers closed out the set on an Allen service error and a kill by Green.
Benedict kept the momentum going in the fourth set, using a 10-1 run to take a 19-9 lead. A kill by
Angelic Carter closed out the set.
The Lady Tigers travel to Morris on Monday for a 6 p.m. match.
