COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers used an 8-0 run in the second quarter to build a double-digit lead, then used an 11-2 run to open the second half to cruise to an 83-67 victory over Kentucky State in a SIAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Taylor Christmas led the Lady Tigers with 24 points, one shy of her career-high.
Alaysia Nash added 15 points, while
Ciara Hardy and
Ghylissa Knowles scored 12 points each.
Aniyah Scales hit a 3-pointer to end the first quarter as Benedict took a 21-14 lead. The Lady Tigers started to pull away in the second quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 29-18 lead and led 48-33 at the half. Benedict scored 11 of the first 13 points in the second half to increase the lead to 59-35. Benedict had a 64-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Benedict scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter to take their largest lead, 74-43.
The Lady Tigers improve to 5-7 overall and 3-4 in the SIAC. Kentucky State falls to 4-9 overall and 3-4 in the SIAC.
Benedict returns to action on January 13 with a road game at Clark Atlanta.
