MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers split their first matches of the second SIAC Crossover on Friday, hosted by LeMoyne-Owen College.
In the first match of the day, Spring Hill defeated Benedict 3-0. The Lady Tigers defeated Tuskegee 3-1 in their second match of the day.
Spring Hill won the match 25-20, 25-14, 25-14.
Mia Burgess led Benedict with seven kills.
Willow Alls had 11 assists and a team-high nine digs.
The Lady Tigers played the six-time defending SIAC champions close in the first set. Benedict had an 19-18 lead after a kill from Burgess and an ace from
Kylie Jackson. The Badgers scored the next six points for a 24-19 lead. A kill by Burgess stopped the streak, but a Benedict service error gave the set to Spring Hill.
Against Tuskegee, Benedict won 25-16, 25-20, 18-25, 31-29.
Angelic Carter had a career-high 13 kills, while Burgess also recorded 13 kills.
Desire' Young also reached double figures with 11 kills. Alls recorded 24 assists. Jackson recorded a career-high 17 digs.
The Lady Tigers, now 12-3 overall and 6-2 in the SIAC, take on Miles on Saturday morning to wrap up the crossover. Benedict returns home to take on Albany State on Tuesday in the HRC Arena at 6 p.m.
