COLUMBIA, S.C. – In a battle between two of the top teams in the SIAC East Division, Albany State took a 3-0 victory over Benedict in a women's volleyball match on Tuesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Albany State won the match 25-17, 25-18, 29-27 to improve to 10-10 overall and 9-2 in the SIAC. Benedict falls to 13-4 overall and 7-3 in the SIAC.
After Albany State claimed the first two sets, Benedict put up a valiant effort in the third set. Albany State had a 17-13 lead, but the Lady Tigers rallied to take a 21-20 lead. A kill by
Desire' Young gave Benedict a 24-23 lead, but the Lady Tigers couldn't finish off the set, as the Golden Rams scored the next two points. A kill by
Mia Burgess and a service ace by Young gave Benedict a 26-25 lead. But once again, Albany State held off set point and scored the next two points for a 27-26 lead.

Angelic Carter tied the match at 27, but Albany State closed out the hard-fought set with a pair of kills.
Carter and Burgess had eight kills each to lead the Lady Tigers, who hit just .065 for the match. Albany State hit .236.
Willow Alls had 11 assists and a team-high six digs. Young recorded four blocks.
Benedict is back in action on Wednesday, hosting cross-street rival Allen University at 7 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
