COLUMBIA, S.C. – Clark Atlanta University rallied from a 10-point third-quarter deficit to edge the Benedict College Lady Tigers 81-79 in a SIAC women's basketball game on Tuesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict led by as much as 13 points, 44-31, late in the second quarter, but Clark Atlanta scored the final six points of the first half to cut the lead to 44-37.
Aaliyah Lawrence opened the second half with a 3-pointer to give Benedict a 47-37 lead. Clark Atlanta then scored 12 unanswered points to take a 49-47 lead, and held a 63-59 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Tigers used an 11-2 run in the fourth quarter to regain the lead, 74-70, with 5:17 remaining. Clark Atlanta scored the next six points to retake the lead.
Alaysia Nash hit two free throws with 2:50 left to tie the game at 76, but Clark Atlanta scored the next four points and Benedict could not get any closer.
Asiah Harris led the Lady Tigers, now 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC, with 20 points. Nash scored 18 points and
Raven Johnson added 11 points. Atreonia Garner led Clark Atlanta, now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC, with 21 points.
The Lady Tigers will return to action on Dec. 4 when they host LeMoyne-Owen College at 5:30 p.m.
