COLUMBIA, S.C. – Albany State used an 11-0 run in the third quarter to take the lead and held on for a 66-60 victory over the Benedict College Lady Tigers in a SIAC women's basketball game on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
 
The Lady Tigers had a 37-33 lead with 6:58 left in the third quarter before the Golden Rams went on their run to take a 44-37 lead and never trailed again. The Lady Tigers were able to keep the game close and tied the contest at 54-54 with 5:57 left in the game after a 3-pointer by Alaysia Nash. Albany State hit two free throws and followed that with a short jumper. Benedict got within 60-58 with 2:38 remaining, but Albany State scored the next six points to hold off a late Benedict rally.
 
Benedict wrapped up the 2025 portion of their schedule at 4-5 overall and 4-5 in the SIAC. Albany State moves to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the SIAC.
 
Aaliyah Lawrence led the Lady Tigers with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Alaysia Nash added nine points and recorded four steals.
 
Benedict shot just 26.9 percent (18-of-67) for the game, including 24.2 percent (8-of-33) in the second half, and shot 16.7 percent (4-of-24) on 3-point attempts.
 
The Lady Tigers take their holiday break and will resume the schedule on Jan. 3 with a road trip to Clark Atlanta.
